Round Rock ISD Executive Director of Human Resource Services Annette Vierra named Old Town Elementary School Principal Mya Mercer the new director of elementary staffing.

Mercer has been with Round Rock ISD for eight years, serving as assistant principal and principal of Old Town. Mercer has been an educator for 16 years, first teaching in New Mexico and later in Lubbock, Texas.

“Mrs. Mercer is an experienced and strong leader that will serve Round Rock ISD elementary schools well,” Vierra said. “I am honored to have Mrs. Mercer join in our efforts to serve our community in a fast, friendly, flexible and focused manner.”

A graduate of Eastern New Mexico University, Mercer has continued to be a lifelong learner, most recently completing the 12-week Dale Carnegie human resources course where she earned the highest award of achievement. Mercer also earned a master’s degree in educational administration from Lubbock Christian University.

“I am definitely excited about this new chapter,” Mercer said. “My time at Old Town has been amazing. Now I’m looking forward to the future of hiring high quality staff so we can continue working toward being a destination district for public schools.”

Mercer will continue to serve Old Town until a new principal is selected. District leadership will seek staff and community input in the coming weeks to begin the principal selection process.
