The Success High School basketball team, in partnership with the Austin Spurs, had the opportunity to play — and win — a game at the Cedar Park Center Feb. 9 as part of the “Court of Dreams” program.

The Success team took the court directly after the Spurs game and clinched a win against a private school in Temple. The “Court of Dreams” program allows high school games to play on a larger stage and create lifelong memories, Austin Spurs Sales Representative Tim Pryor said.

“The Court of Dreams is a great partnership with Round Rock ISD,” Pryor said. “These kids only get to play one or two games per year, so if one of their games is on the court the Spurs play on, it’s huge.”

The Success athletes, outfitted in new uniforms, also attended a career fair held at the Cedar Park Center during the Austin Spurs game. The Nike uniforms were donated to Success through the Round Rock ISD Partners in Education Foundation.

“I’m ready to play my hardest,” Mitchell said. “I get to play in an arena with all my friends and I really like the new uniform.”

Success Physical Education Teacher and Coach Chris Gottschalk also organizes a Success football team, which will play at the Texas State University Bobcat Stadium March 9 against Bastrop Genesis High School. The chance to play in a large-scale stadium or arena is an extra incentive for students to stay in school and graduate, Gottschalk said.

“By doing this program, these kids make it a point to be on time to school and get their grades up,” Gottschalk said. “They want to be here. If they’re not on campus, they don’t play.”
