Round Rock ISD art educator helps students alleviate stress with Art Care Kits

Round Rock ISD Art Educator Carolyn Scalan couldn’t get the devastation her students experienced off her mind. An artist herself, she turned to the healing power of art to help her students cope with their feelings. Scalan created an Amazon wish list full of art supplies and sent an ask for donations out over her social media channels. A week later, dozens of Amazon boxes containing supplies arrived at her home every day for over a week. Scalan estimates that she received over $2,500 worth of donated supplies.

Voigt second-graders art and math integration works hang in Washington D.C. museum

Intersecting visual art and math, Voigt second-graders learned about the area of a rectangle and created original works of faux stained glass. Students progressed in understanding a rectangle, the sides of a rectangle, and then the inside of a rectangle, the area. Using cellophane, they explored tangrams, measured the area, divided it into equal parts or square units, and used their materials as tangram pieces to construct an image like stained glass.

Elementary Art Exhibition

For 27 years, the Round Rock ISD Fine Arts Department has put elementary school students’ finest artwork on public display. This year the exhibition is at the Raymond E. Hartfield Performing Art Center for all to see.

Round Rock ISD salutes Career and Technical Education in our schools

Career and Technical Education (CTE) serves Round Rock ISD students in middle and high school, representing 14 of the Texas Career Clusters and more than 100-course offerings. Career and Technical Education helps prepare students who want to embark on a career trajectory while still in high school by offering nearly 30 career pathways for students seeking fulfilling high-paying, high-demand careers.

Tim Lowke and Jager Loyde named Directors of Fine Arts

Tim Lowke and Jager Loyde have been named the District’s Director of Fine Arts – Visual Arts and Director of Fine Arts – Music, respectively. Their appointment as directors comes after a reorganization of the District’s Fine Arts Department to better support the needs of growing programs, staff, and students. The visual arts’ position will focus on serving elementary music, theatre, and visual arts, and the music position will focus on supporting band, choir, and orchestra.

All District Virtual Art Exhibition

The district hosts numerous art exhibitions throughout the year but this year things look a little different. Assistant Director of Visual and Fine Arts Tim Lowke says “thinking very much outside the box and looking at how we are able to continue to host the things that we traditionally have hosted just in a new and different way.”

Round Rock ISD named District of Distinction by TAEA for Second Consecutive Year

For the second consecutive year, Round Rock ISD has been named a District of Distinction for its Visual Arts Program by the Texas Art Education Association (TAEA). The honor is given to select school districts for providing a well-rounded education that advocates and integrates visual arts curriculum to inspire creativity and reach all different learners.
