The Canyon Vista Middle School and Westwood High School orchestras earned top marks during the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Honor Orchestra competition this summer.
Each year, Texas school bands and orchestras submit recordings with the hopes of going through a multi-level process to be named a TMEA Honor Band or Honor Orchestra and perform for the organization at its annual convention the year following selection. Out of the four groups in the District that submitted entries, three of them earned top placements in the state.
Awards earned included:
- Canyon Vista String Orchestra, 2nd Place
- Canyon Vista Full Orchestra, 3rd Place
- Westwood Full Orchestra, 3rd Place
The instructor of the Canyon Vista orchestras is Ragan Whatley, and the instructor for Westwood is Josh Thompson.
