Dr. Byron Gerard has been named Round Rock ISD’s Assistant Superintendent of Student Support Services.
Dr. Gerard has served as the Executive Director of College and Career Readiness at Yakima School District in Washington since 2021. During that time, he led the efforts to increase college and career readiness opportunities for students, including establishing the first AA degree in a high school pathway in the State of Washington and a guaranteed college admission program with five universities. Before his role as executive director, he served in many campus leadership roles, including principal, assistant principal, and dean of students. He has over 20 years of experience in education.
“I am thrilled to join the Round Rock ISD community and have the privilege of supporting the remarkable professionals dedicated to serving students and families in our schools,” Dr. Gerard said. “The Student Support Services department is committed to ensuring equity in our schools through personalized programs and pathways that celebrate each student’s unique talents, abilities, hard work, and future hopes and dreams. On days that I struggled in school, the relationships with the people in my school prevented me from giving up. Knowing that I was valued and supported prevented me from losing hope. Creating systems where students know they are cared about, listened to, valued, and loved will be the foundation of my role as the Assistant Superintendent of Student Support Services. When students understand their pathway and have hope for their future, their achievement soars.”
Gerard’s appointment to the Assistant Superintendent of Student Support Services position follows the District’s decision to transform the Chief of Teaching and Learning role to two separate positions to support the needs of students better and further the work that impacts campuses, students, and staff. The Assistant Superintendent of Student Support Services will provide oversight and guide the work of the services and departments that support student talent and success, such as fine arts, athletics, and enrichment.
“Dr. Gerard has an extensive background as an effective leader and advocate for students,” Superintendent of School Dr. Hafedh Azaiez said. “His leadership will allow us to enhance the level of support we provide our students and positively impact the teaching and learning environment.”
Dr. Gerard earned a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Western Washington University, a Master’s in Education from City University, and a Bachelor’s in Art from Northwest University.
