The Canyon Vista Middle School and Westwood High School orchestras earned top marks during the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Honor Orchestra competition.
Earlier this year, area bands submitted recordings; with hopes of beating out other schools in a statewide multi-level process. The goal was to be named a TMEA Honor Band or Honor Orchestra. Out of the groups in the District that submitted entries, three earned top placements.
Awards earned included:
- Canyon Vista String Orchestra, 2nd Place
- Canyon Vista Band, 4th Place
- Westwood Full Orchestra, 1st Place
The Westwood Full Orchestra will now perform at the TMEA Convention, next February (2024), in San Antonio.
Our congratulations also extend to the conductors of these bands, Joshua Thompson at Westwood High School, and Ragan Whatley and Emily Hornbake at Canyon Vista Middle School.
