Round Rock ISD has received the Texas Cyberstar Certificate from the Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR). The certification is in recognition of the District’s commitment to cybersecurity best practices and efforts to protect the data and privacy of students, parents, teachers, and staff.

Round Rock ISD is one of only nine organizations across State/Local government, higher education, and private business in Texas to hold this certificate. The District is also the second K-12 organization to earn the distinction since the certification’s inception.

To earn the certification, the District was assessed on many points of criteria including:

  • Adopting a cybersecurity risk management program;
  • Providing appropriate training and information for employees;
  • Maintaining consistency with National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) standards for cybersecurity;
  • Incorporating public service announcements to encourage cybersecurity awareness; and
  • Coordinating with local and state governmental entities.

The certification is valid for one year and will need to be reapplied for in 2023.
