Showing off their musical talents at the national level, the Round Rock High School marching band was recognized as one of the top 12 marching bands in the nation at the Bands of America Grand Nationals competition in Indianapolis in November.
Over 100 bands from across the nation competed for the title, and after qualifying for the finals, the Dragon marching band earned 12th place overall.
“We are incredibly proud of our students and their performance,” Round Rock Principal Matt Groff said. “The level of talent, hard work, determination and heart needed to succeed at the national scale is embodied by the Dragon marching band. They do an amazing job of representing our city, our campus and our District.”
This is the band’s third trip to the Bands of America Grand Nationals competition and third time making it to the finals. They are the only marching band in Central Texas to earn a place in the finals.
The band performed their show Errand into the Maze taken from Silvstre Rezueltas’ Sensemaya. The show is about overcoming fear and the band has been working hard on the production since early August.
“It’s an honor for us to go somewhere else that’s far away from home and represent Round Rock,” Round Rock Band Director David Mobley said. “It’s really cool that the students have done well at the event and people know who we are and where we are from. That’s all credit to the kids hard work and the things they’ve accomplished as performers. They’ve put our band program and community on the map and that’s a pretty special thing.”
