Stony Point High School eleventh-grade student, Asia Wren, placed third in the girls’ singles event at the bowling State Championship in Fort Worth on March 25. Asia advanced to the State Championship by finishing first in the District competition after which she competed at Regionals and came in second. The top seven girls at regionals advanced to state. Asia was one of the top sixty-five bowlers in the state who advanced from the different regions.

Asia qualified in tenth place out of sixty-five girls after three games which allowed her to advance to match play. She won her round of sixteen matches best 2 out of 3 games. Asia continued her winning streak in the quarterfinals winning three matches but she was defeated in the semi-finals match with a score of 200-234.

Stony Point Bowling Coach, Tanja Wren, said that Asia advanced as far as any Stony Point Bowler has in Singles.

“Im very proud of Asia and her hard work,” Wren said. “She dedicates so much time to improving her skills and it is paying off. She is an inspiration to her team and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for her.”

Asia says her success makes her want to continue to improve during her senior year.

“Looking back on it now from last year at State to this year, my skills and mental game have improved which I feel helped me to perform as well as I did,” Asia said. “It feels great to improve from last year. This has pushed me to want to achieve more in bowling.”
