Westwood High School senior Matthew Jiang earned a perfect comprehensive score of 36 on the September ACT.

Matthew aced the test by using skills from an SAT preparation course and ACT practice tests. He previously took the ACT in February 2016, earning a 34, and committed to retaking the test to earn a perfect score.

“The practice tests helped me mostly with learning the timing of the test and the format of the questions,” Matthew said. “I’m happy with more score because it certainly looks good for college.”

Matthew is currently applying for a variety of colleges, including the University of Texas at Austin, Carnegie Mellon University and the University of California Berkeley, where he plans to study computer engineering.

“We are incredibly proud of Matthew’s hard work and dedication to earn a perfect score on the ACT,” Westwood Principal Mario Acosta said. “At Westwood, we strive to empower all students to embrace learning and challenges, which Matthew has exemplified.”
