Round Rock ISD Elementary Teacher of the Year Revathi Balakrishnan has been named the Region XIII 2016 Teacher of the Year.

Balakrishnan, Sommer Elementary School gifted and talented specialist, was named the 2016 Round Rock ISD Elementary Teacher of the Year in May. Balakrishnan has been an educator for nine years, six of which have been at Sommer as a founding staff member.

Balakrishnan said she was surprised and thrilled at the honor, which added extra excitement to the upcoming school year.

“I am so excited – it’s a fantastic honor,” Balakrishnan said. “The new school year is always fantastic, but this is just icing on the cake.”

Region 13 hosts 60 school districts and spans 16 counties in the Central Texas area. Balakrishnan will now advance to the Texas Teacher of the Year program, facilitated by the Texas Association of School Administrators.

“We are so proud that Region XIII leaders have seen the passion and love for education from Ms. Balakrishnan that we view daily in Round Rock ISD,” said Dr. Steve Flores, Superintendent of Schools. “It’s an honor to work alongside exceptional teachers like Ms. Balakrishnan and I look forward to supporting her in any way as she continues to represent Round Rock ISD in the Texas Teacher of the Year program.”
