hartfield raymond1The Round Rock ISD Board of Trustees approved renaming the Round Rock ISD Performing Arts Center the “Raymond E. Hartfield Performing Arts Center” during its Board Meeting on Thursday, September 19, 2013.

Hartfield served on the Board of Trustees from 1994 to 2008 and served as Board President for three years. While on the Board, he championed for construction of the Performing Arts Center as a needed performance venue.

He was also co-chairman of ACCTion 4 Education, a committee focused on bringing Austin Community College to Round Rock. He was active in the Round Rock Chamber of Commerce and was named Citizen of the Year by the group in 2010. Hartfield also served on the boards for the YMCA of Greater Williamson County, Skillpoint Alliance, St. David’s Medical Center–Round Rock and the Texas State University Advisory Board. Hartfield died in June 2012.

From April 22 to May 6, the district received 182 responses from community members regarding the renaming. A total of 166 respondents (91 percent) were in favor of renaming the PAC in honor of Mr. Hartfield.
