The Round Rock ISD Board of Trustees Thursday evening approved the Superintendent employment contract for Dr. Steve Flores, who on August 23 was named lone finalist for the position.

Flores’ contract will begin October 1, 2013 and end June 30, 2017.

The contract includes a base salary of $260,000 and benefits such as life and health insurance, expense allowances, contribution to an annuity, incentive and performance payments, moving expense allowance and other benefits available to district personnel.

State law required trustees wait 21 days after announcing the finalist before extending a contract to the candidate.

Flores has served as the Superintendent of Harlingen Consolidated ISD since July 2008. Prior to working in Harlingen, he served the students of Dallas ISD, first as the Area VI Superintendent then Deputy Superintendent and finally Chief of Staff. He has served as an Assistant Superintendent for both Pflugerville ISD and Round Rock ISD. While at Round Rock ISD he also served briefly as the Acting Superintendent.

Current Superintendent Dr. Jesús H. Chávez announced in January his plans to retire from his position at the end of 2013.

Trustees also approved to amend Chávez’s Superintendent employment contract and to revise his title to Advisor to the Superintendent, effective October 1, 2013. They also revised the end of his contract date to reflect December 31, 2013 instead of June 30, 2015.
