Bond update: Teacher laptop distributions begin
Nearly 800 Round Rock ISD educators are now the proud recipients of new laptops, courtesy of the voters who supported the district’s bond in November.
Donnie Bruton, Jr. named Chief Technology Officer
Round Rock ISD selects Donnie Bruton, Jr. as chief technology officer
Bruton has over 23 years of experience supporting technology endpoint devices and infrastructure systems in state, higher education, and K-12 public school environments. He has been Round Rock ISD's director of technology infrastructure since 2021. And previously, Bruton served in technology leader roles for Georgetown and Pflugerville Independent School Districts.
Laura Ihonvbere has been named principal of Callison Elementary
Laura Ihonvbere is the new principal of Callison Elementary School. Ihonvbere has served in a campus leadership role with Round Rock ISD at C.D. Fulkes Middle School, Cactus Ranch Elementary School, Wells Branch Elementary Arts Integration Academy, and Chandler Oaks Elementary School since 2010.
Jessica Rinehart has been named principal of Caraway Elementary
Rinehart began her career with Round Rock ISD in 2010 at Caraway Elementary School. She spent nine years in the classroom as a Kindergarten, second and fourth-grade teacher. Recently she has served as a Westwood High School-associate principal.
New School Start Times Begin On Aug. 15
Starting Aug. 15, all Round Rock ISD elementary, middle and high schools will start school five minutes earlier than the previous year. The adjustments follow the Board of Trustees approval of a calendar amendment to add five instructional minutes to each school day.
Round Rock ISD Seeks Volunteers for Back to School Event
Round Rock ISD is seeking volunteers for its Back to School Celebration scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 5 from 10 a.m to 2 p.m. at Stony Point High School, 1801 Tiger Trail, Round Rock, TX 78664. The event is held in partnership with the Round Rock ISD Partners in Education (PIE) Foundation and Texas Children’s Hospital.
Amber Velasquez Named Principal of Old Town Elementary
Amber Velasquez has been named the new principal of Old Town Elementary School. Velasquez most recently served as a Summer Learning Principal and Associate Principal at Bluebonnet Elementary School.

Cedar Ridge High School Marching Band ranks 11th at State competition
Competing against the best high school marching bands in Texas, the Cedar Ridge High School marching band bested 30 school bands to earn 11th place in the 6A division during the University Interscholastic League (UIL) State Marching Band Contest held from Nov. 5-7 at the Alamodome.
Westwood High School Tennis takes gold at UIL State Championship
The Westwood High School Tennis team made campus history by taking home the gold during the University Interscholastic League (UIL) 6A State Championship competition on Thursday.
Round Rock, Westwood students earn perfect ACT scores
Twelve students collectively from Round Rock High School and Westwood High School achieved a perfect score of 36 on the ACT during the June, July and September administration of the assessment.
