On National STEM Day, students from Ridgeview Middle School, Blackland Prairie, Brushy Creek, and Pond Springs Elementary Schools, spanning grades 3 through 6, and members of the Girls Who Game club had the opportunity to explore Dell’s cutting-edge UT Austin Esport Arena and lounge.
As technology continues to show up in the classroom, even our youngest students are getting a taste of it. Pre-K robotics was introduced this year in Round Rock ISD, with students as young as four learning the beginning stages of coding.

Students who participate in the District-provided summer learning programs such as high school summer learning, Middle School Propel, and Elementary Launch will need to bring their Chromebooks with them each day.

In its second year as a campus club and first year as a competitive team, Ridgeview Middle School’s Esports team currently ranks fourth in its league. Fourth place qualifies the team to compete in the Spring playoffs. Esports is short for electronic sports, which is competitive, organized video gaming. The team’s 30 members, including sixth, seventh, and eighth grades, compete nationally in organized gameplay tournaments against other students their age.

Round Rock ISD’s 1:1 technology program ensures every student who needs a personal technology device is assigned a District-issued Chromebook. Students new to the District can check out a Chromebook from their campus. Elementary schools received interactive panels in late 2020 and they have had an immediate impact. Now installed at middle schools and soon high schools, teachers say they bring secondary students a sense of normalcy and connection while helping them teach.
“Adding report cards is another way the District continues to add value to the Home Access Center,” said Katie Rice, student application support manager. “HAC is a central location for parents and students to manage their grades, assignments, and other information related to campus life.”
Round Rock ISD prepared and checked-out thousands of Chromebooks to students who had no or limited access to devices for students to participate in at-home learning, which began on Monday, April 6. At-home learning is online teacher-facilitated instruction, using tools such as Google Classrooms and the District email system to communicate, receive, and submit assignments.
