Students dive into the intersection of STEM and Esports on National STEM Day
On National STEM Day, students from Ridgeview Middle School, Blackland Prairie, Brushy Creek, and Pond Springs Elementary Schools, spanning grades 3 through 6, and members of the Girls Who Game club had the opportunity to explore Dell’s cutting-edge UT Austin Esport Arena and lounge.
Blackland Prairie Elementary ranks as 2023 Leader in Me Lighthouse Academic Honor Roll School
Blackland Prairie qualified for the Exemplary Academic Proficiency by ranking above the 85th percentile in testing and meeting the rigorous requirements to achieve and maintain Lighthouse School Certification. The percentile ranking for Blackland Prairie Elementary rose in 2023 to 92% in the state, up from 87% in 2022.
Round Rock ISD Gamers take it to new levels with Esports
Thanks to the partnership with the YMCA, six Round Rock ISD elementary schools now have Esports labs. Students can sign up for teams and collaborate on games like Minecraft and Rocket League, all while building communication and learning how to work with others to accomplish a goal.

Blackland Prairie Teacher Named 2023 HEB Excellence In Education Award Finalist
Watch Blackland Prairie third-grade teacher Candi Tenbush get the surprise of the year! This week, she was named a finalist in the H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards and received a prize of $1,000 in front of her class. Next, she will head to San Antonio to see if she takes home the main prize. If she wins, she and her campus will each receive a check for $25,000. Families, students, and staff asked to complete 2022 campus survey
From Monday, Feb. 21 through Friday, Feb. 25, the primary parent/guardian on file, students, and staff will receive an email from Round Rock ISD to link to your school’s 2022 survey. The survey is mobile-friendly and short. It can take less than five minutes to complete.
Kindergarten registration for 2022-2023 begins March 7
Online registration for Round Rock ISD families to enroll kindergarteners for the 2022-2023 school year opens on Monday, March 7. Round Rock ISD has 35 top-rated elementary schools that educate, support, and serve Central Texas students in Round Rock, portions of Cedar Park, and the City of Austin.
Sensory Pathways
Several elementary schools across the district have sensory pathways. These pathways are used to help students take a quick brain break from the classroom when needed and release some energy to renew their focus. Round Rock ISD Partners in Education Foundation Awards $125,000 in Excellence in Education Grants
Educators from across Round Rock ISD campuses and departments were selected to receive $125,000 in Excellence in Education Grants from the Round Rock ISD Partners in Education (PIE) Foundation. The Excellence in Education Grants provides resources for educators to execute innovative ideas, programs, materials, equipment, field trips, and various other needs that enhance student learning. All Round Rock ISD students are impacted by the grants in some capacity.
Jesica Cuellar named principal of Blackland Prairie
Jesica Cuellar has been named the new principal of Blackland Prairie Elementary School. Cuellar has served as the assistant principal of Westwood High School since 2019.
