Round Rock ISD continues to lead in STEM education, with six campuses earning the 2024-2025 Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Distinguished School designation, a national recognition for excellence in student access, engagement, and achievement in PLTW programs.
Joe Lee Johnson Elementary STEAM Academy joins Cedar Ridge, McNeil, Round Rock, Stony Point, and Westwood high schools in receiving the honor. The designation is awarded to a select group of schools nationwide that demonstrate a commitment to expanding access to high-quality STEM curriculum through PLTW’s hands-on, project-based learning.
McNeil High School celebrates this distinction for the eighth consecutive year, underscoring a longstanding tradition of excellence in STEM education.
“At Round Rock ISD, we believe every student deserves access to transformative learning experiences that spark curiosity and fuel future success,” said Superintendent Hafedh Azaiez. “This recognition affirms the incredible work happening in our schools to cultivate the next generation of STEM leaders.”
PLTW is a national nonprofit organization that serves millions of PreK–12 students and educators across the U.S. To qualify for Distinguished School status, campuses must meet rigorous criteria, including student participation rates, the number of PLTW units offered, and efforts to ensure equitable access to STEM learning opportunities.
