Education and Training students in Round Rock ISD’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) program at Cedar Ridge, Round Rock, and Stony Point high schools will be instructors for the Future Leaders summer camp. Juniors Lupita Aniceto, Avery Bailiff, Sophia Balli, and Mia Menchaca with Seniors Rebeca Alvarez and Trinity Ner will plan and lead campers in a week full of activities geared towards exploring careers in education. The high school camp leaders will work under the supervision of a CTE District administrator.
Round Rock ISD Future Leaders summer camp introduces students in grades 1 through 6 to the skill of teaching and the art of leadership. Campers will participate in hands-on activities and create materials that build community and provide opportunities for public speaking. The Future Leaders summer camp is from June 13 through June 16 at Herrington Elementary School, located at 2850 Paloma Lake Blvd. in Round Rock.
“Our high school student-teachers had to apply and interview for the opportunity to be part of the camp teaching team,” said Lucy Sanchez, Round Rock ISD CTE specialist. “Their role as Future Leaders camp instructors combined with their classroom teacher-intern experience helps our high school students get real-world experience and build their resumes.”
Education and Training is a Round Rock ISD career and technical education program of study. The program prepares students for careers related to teaching, instruction, and creating instructional and enrichment materials. Students learn the fundamentals for developing curriculum, coordinating educational content, and coaching groups and individuals.
