District leadership announced Thursday that James Williby has been selected to help lead the District’s police department as its first Assistant Chief of Police.
Williby has served Round Rock ISD as a School Resource Officer with the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office since 2012. During his time as a SRO, he not only assisted his campus but also helped train new Williamson County SROs and new supervisors coming to the program. Before serving as an SRO, he worked as a Deputy Sheriff with the sheriff’s department for four years. He is also a former member of the United States Navy.
Williby holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Science in Professional Aeronautics from the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Florida.
“I am excited to join Chief Yarbrough and the officers of the Round Rock ISD PD family,” Williby said. “I look forward to carrying out the vision of looking at school safety and security through a different lens. By taking behavioral health, equity and student advocacy into account, all individuals will benefit from the best possible outcome. I look forward to working with the Round Rock ISD Board, Administration, school campuses, students and the community to promote a collaborative and trusting environment where we all can thrive.”
As Assistant Chief of Police, Williby will oversee the hiring and onboarding of new Round Rock ISD Police officers to ensure the District is fully staffed and prepared to provide the highest quality of service as the District’s contracts with existing law enforcement partners come to an end.
“I am beyond excited to have Chief Williby join the Round Rock ISD PD family,” Police Chief Jeffrey Yarbrough said. “He is a well-respected leader who brings a wealth of school policing experience to the department. I have no doubt that together we will change the face of school policing by promoting school safety, equity, behavioral health, and student advocacy.”
