The Round Rock ISD Board of Trustees approved renaming Round Rock High School’s Marine Corps JROTC (MCJROTC) air rifle range the Cpl. Joseph E. Fite (USMC) Shooting Range. Trustees made this decision during their regular board meeting Thursday evening.

U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Joseph Fite graduated from RRHS in 1999. He played trombone in the Dragon Band and was a member of the school’s MCJROTC. He attended The University of Texas at Austin and was active in the Longhorn Band and ROTC. While at UT, he enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve.

He was deployed to Iraq in August 2004 and was killed in Iraq in January 2005.

The school’s site based committee requested Trustees rename the range in memory of Fite.
