Recognized for her efforts to enhance the Talented and Gifted curriculum in Round Rock ISD, Raine Maggio, gifted services coordinator, was named the recipient of the 2018 Texas Association for the Gifted and Talented (TAGT) Administrator of the Gifted Award.
The award is presented annually to a school district or campus administrator who is responsible for creating and championing exemplary services for gifted students through campus or districtwide programming. As Gifted Services Coordinator, Maggio organizes gifted programming for Round Rock ISD, including identification and services, staff development, collaboration with the TAG parent advisory council, and supports campus TAG specialists and teaching staff.
“Our team of dedicated teachers, administrators and parents have collaborated to advocate for equitable identification and services for our students and I am so proud to represent their efforts as the TAGT State Administrator of the Gifted,” Maggio said.”
Both as a parent and educator of gifted children, Raine has dedicated herself to equitable identification and service options, and also supporting teachers and parents to meet the needs of gifted and high ability learners best, she said.
“Raine brings a level of expertise and passion to the role of gifted services coordinator that, when combined with her creativity and willingness to try new approaches, have allowed our programming to set the standard at the forefront of the field,” said Michelle Swain, director gifted and advanced academic services.
Maggio has always had a passion for education, which she has worked in for more than a decade, but it wasn’t until after teaching in an elementary school did she realize she had a passion for gifted and talented education. This passion drove her to learn more and seek out her Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology with an emphasis in Gifted Education from the University of North Texas. While obtaining her master’s degree, she continued to work as a teacher in Round Rock ISD and was awarded the 2006 TAGT Region 13 Teacher of the Gifted, the 2008 Teacher of the Year title at her campus and the 2008 District Elementary Teacher of the Year.
