Dear Parents and Guardians,
Today, City of Austin leaders announced that they expect the Boil Water Notice to continue for at least a few more days. For Round Rock ISD, that means a number of our schools located in Austin and/or that utilize the city’s water supply will continue to be impacted until the Boil Water Notice is lifted.
Until then, our District will continue to provide all students and staff at affected campuses with safe drinking water. Much like yesterday, our District’s Operations Department provided drinking water in large 40-gallon containers at campuses and sourced as many pre-packaged water bottles as possible. To ensure that today’s instructional day began as smoothly as possible, members of the Operations Department spent yesterday evening refilling water containers in the campus kitchens and restocking cups for campuses to utilize today.
We will continue to meet the needs of campuses during this time. Throughout the school day, our Maintenance Department is working to replenish water supplies as quickly as possible when refills are needed. Cafeterias have also continued to adjust their menus to minimize the need for water and have clean, boiled water available when necessary.
Although we do have adequate supply to meet needs, we are asking parents and students to help us conserve this resource as much as possible by sending students to school with, if able, pre-packaged water bottles or water bottles filled with water that has been boiled for at least three minutes. We understand that this may not be feasible for all of our families.
Donations of bottled water continue to be welcome and can be dropped off at affected campuses. (See the list below.)
To keep our community informed, our District will continue to post information on our website about how the boil water notice affects our school operations, and we will also share on the Round Rock ISD Twitter and Facebook pages.
As we move forward these next few days, we encourage everyone to talk to their students about the city’s water situation and about the importance of following the boil water requirements as we work to stay healthy and hydrated. Thank you for your support of our schools, students, and staff.
