Cedar Ridge High School partnered with Tom Maynard to host his official Texas State Board of Education Oath of Office on Jan. 3.
Cedar Ridge students and staff welcomed Maynard, as well as a number of local and state elected officials, to the ceremony, which was officiated by Texas State Representative Larry Gonzales. Maynard will serve District 10 as part of the Board, which includes 17 counties, including Williamson County.
Sam Robinson, Cedar Ridge teacher and coach, introduced Maynard, detailing the significance Maynard played in his own upbringing. As a coach in the small town of Dell City, Texas, Maynard served as a role model, coach and father figure for Robinson as he struggled through adolescence.
“Hosting the official oath of office at a campus underscores the mission of the Board and its need to be student focused,” Maynard said. “Cedar Ridge is especially important because Sam is here and he represents part of my career as he was part of my first freshman class.”
Cedar Ridge Career and Technical Education students were invited to attend the event and take part in a question-and-answer session following the ceremony. A class of future educators and the Cedar Ridge Academy Ambassadors visited with Maynard and elected officials to learn more about the education field and public life.
“We are honored in Round Rock ISD to host the official swearing in of Mr. Tom Maynard,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Steve Flores said. “Our students gained valuable experience by witnessing democracy in action and I look forward to working with Mr. Maynard to continue supporting student achievement.”
