Valedictorian Thanvi Thodati has accomplished becoming Round Rock High School’s top student in its Class of 2017. Thanvi will enter the University of Texas at Austin in the fall and has declared two majors, neuroscience and Plan II, a four-year interdisciplinary arts and science honors program.
“My combined interest in the natural sciences and psychology led me to choose my neuroscience degree,” Thanvi said. “As for my second degree, I wanted to continue being exposed to a broad scope of topics that would help inform my understanding of people and the world. I hope to use both degrees not only in my pursuit of a Doctorate of Medicine (MD), but also to understand the processes that contribute to social disparities and stigma.”
Along with Round Rock, Thanvi also attended Fern Bluff Elementary School and Walsh Middle School during her time in Round Rock ISD. She has been a member of student council since her freshman year, serving as sophomore class vice president, executive communications officer, and executive vice president. Thanvi said her student council experiences has been instrumental in developing her leadership and speaker skills.
Thanvi names Kara Sarlis, Round Rock English teacher and student council sponsor as her most influential teacher. Thanvi said that she wouldn’t be the person she is today if not for Sarlis’ guidance and friendship.
“In all of Thanvi scholastic talents, her passionate character, insatiable pursuit of truth and natural talents as a leader shine far more brilliantly than the numbers of class rank or test scores,” Sarlis said. “Our school will long reap the influence of her leadership and intellect. Her willingness to share what she knows and believes in has impacted Round Rock High School, as well as me personally, in an immeasurable way.”
Immediately following graduation, Thanvi is looking forward to visiting India and having some free time to read, write and draw. Beyond that, Thanvi said she wants to study abroad and meet people who challenge her to think beyond her perceptions.
“I’m interested in a diverse range of topics and experiences and I’m excited to figure out how each of those interests will play a role in my future,” Thanvi said.
