Round Rock ISD named Randi Chaverria the 2019 Secondary Teacher of the Year at the District’s annual banquet Monday evening, sponsored by the Round Rock ISD Partners in Education (PIE) Foundation and A+ Federal Credit Union.

Chaverria, a Family and Consumer Science Teacher, was named the Teacher of the Year at Round Rock High School and was selected among 20 secondary educators to represent the District at the state competition. Chaverria has been an educator for five years, two of which have been in her current position.

Chaverria credits her family’s unwavering belief in education and coming from a family of educators as her reason for developing a passion for teaching. With that passion for education, she has developed her own goals of what she hopes to instill in her students, which transcends curriculum and aims to create well-rounded students who make a difference.

“The most important role of a teacher is to help shape future generations to become successful members of our community,” Chaverria said. “More than any curriculum I teach my students, I hope that they will walk away from my classroom thinking of ways that they can make a difference in their community and impact the lives of others for the better.”

During her time at Round Rock, she has applied that mindset to making a positive impact on her campus by leading the Adopt-A-Child a community service project. Through the initiative, high school students “adopt” an elementary school child who has been identified as “in need,” purchase holiday gifts and host a party for the child at the high school campus. She has also continually worked to collaborate and foster relationships with both students and fellow educators.

Chaverria will continue to the 2019 Region 13 Secondary Teacher of the Year competition where she will represent Round Rock ISD in hopes of becoming the 2019 Texas Secondary Teacher of the Year.

I am confident that she will represent our District well at the Region 13 competition.”
