This summer Heads Up Football provided Round Rock ISD high school coaches professional development training aimed at refining the coaching staff’s safety implementation, development and response skills.
Coaches from all five of the District’s high schools fine tuned their skills in safe tackling, hydration, concussion management, sudden cardiac arrest and emergency planning procedures.
“We want our coaches to remain highly skilled at delivering students the latest safety techniques endorsed by professional organizations, from the NFL down through youth leagues and taught across the country,” said Dwayne Weirich Round Rock ISD athletic director. “Student safety is our priority and at the center of everything we do on the field and off.”
All Round Rock ISD coaches receive annual rules compliance training which includes safety, nutrition, hydration and emergency planning. In addition to bi-annual training in CPR, first-aid, concussion management and UIL requirements.
“Our coaches already practice most of these techniques. We just want to discover new ways to do things, get better and be better,” said Lee Penland, Round Rock ISD assistant athletic director.
Next year District middle school coaches will participate in Heads Up Football skills training, with all District coaches being asked to complete the training within the next two years.
