The Round Rock ISD Board of Trustees continued deliberating on the contents of a Bond election item that aligns with the District’s needs for growth, innovation, and safety during a Feb. 9 Board Workshop.

Trustees reviewed each potential item recommended by the Citizens Bond Committee (CBC), as well as additional items left off the group’s final recommendation.

In evaluating the CBC’s recommendations, totaling $530.1 million, administration presented a tax impact scenario of $1.65 per month and $19.86 for a median-valued home in Round Rock ISD, valued at $290,000. After voter approval of a tax increase in Bond 2014, the Board voted to decrease the tax rate to relieve property owners with rising property costs.

Upon review, Trustees discussed the addition of recommendations to the CBC’s proposal. Additional recommendations include:

  • construction of a third district outdoor athletic facility located at Cedar Ridge to help reduce the amount of Thursday night games;
  • classroom expansions at Sommer Elementary School and Ridgeview Middle School to alleviate overcrowding due to enrollment growth;
  • expansion to Brushy Creek Elementary School’s cafeteria and core facilities to alleviate overcrowding and prepare for further growth;,
  • auditorium and parking solution designs for Round Rock and Westwood high schools to provide immediate and neighboring campuses with performances spaces;
  • future land purchases for schools and facilities; and
  • design(s) for a permanent Early College and Health Professions High School.

The CBC’s recommendation includes the building of an elementary school, comprehensive high school, career tech high school, and an indoor aquatics center. Also included will be classroom additions for Brushy Creek and Forest Creek elementary schools, Canyon Vista Middle School, and Stony Point High School.

The Trustees will continue reviewing Bond recommendations during a Board Workshop on Feb. 15 and present for potential approval during its Regular Meeting on Feb. 16. If approved, the Bond would be called for a May 6, 2017 election.
