Round Rock ISD Trustee Terri Romere plans to submit a letter of resignation from the Board after serving students and advocating tirelessly for initiatives, including vertical alignment, vocational training, local control, and fiscal responsibility, since 2010.
“Our Board is harmonious and in alignment to serve kids in our community,” Romere said. “I am proud to have served this community as a Trustee and will continue to serve students and families. As CEO of a real estate brokerage firm, my clients and the opportunity to develop a large commercial project needs my focus. My role as a mom also comes first with my children starting law school and joining the military.”
Romere, who serves in Place 4, is serving her second term on the Board, which expires in 2018. During her service, she has been in leadership roles on committees and as the Board secretary. The Board plans to have an action item regarding her resignation on the Jan. 19 regular Board meeting agenda.
“I am honored to continue to be a firm voice for career training, agriculture, and public education, serving this District as an advising partner and a citizen committee member,” Romere said.
During her time on the Board, Romere has supported the passage of a $299 million bond, expanded agriculture science programs, approved a Strategic Plan, hired current Superintendent of Schools Dr. Steve Flores, and adopted a District of Innovation plan that will give families more flexibility, while also being supportive of teachers. She has also supported initiatives to increase teacher compensation, including stipends for Career and Technical Education (CTE) teachers.
“Trustee Romere brought a passion and drive to the Board that will be missed greatly,” Board President Diane Cox said. “While we are saddened by her resignation, I am proud to celebrate her past six years of hard work and dedication in serving the diverse and growing population of Round Rock ISD.”
The Board will hold a vote on Romere’s resignation at its Jan. 19 regular Board meeting. The Board has two options regarding the method of filling the Place 4 seat: a replacement could be selected by the Board to carry out the remainder of her term or a special election could be called.
“Trustee Romere has been an asset to our District as a fierce advocate for our students, staff and community,” Dr. Flores said. “As a Trustee and Round Rock ISD parent, she has proved her commitment to our District. I am grateful for her service and support as we continue to serve as the Destination District for Public Schools.”
