Round Rock ISD named Mandy Estes the new Chief of Teaching and Learning after serving as interim in the position since September 1.
Estes brings over 25 years of education experience to the position with expertise in both elementary and secondary schools, Estes solidifies a position left vacant with the retirement of longtime educator and Round Rock ISD leader Robbin Gesch.
Estes had served as Executive Director of Teaching and Learning Secondary since 2014 and was previously the district’s Director of Elementary Education and the Principal of Caldwell Heights Elementary School.
“I am excited to continue my leadership journey and to serve the students of Round Rock ISD,” Estes said. “This District has been my family. We have a fantastic team of professional educators ready to meet the needs of kids, and I’m excited to continue the work of our Strategic Plan.”
Estes holds a bachelor’s degree in Finance from Stephen F. Austin State University and a master’s degree in educational administration from Texas State University.
Under Estes’ leadership, Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs produce almost 16,000 student credits each year, including students amassing 6,000 professional certifications in 2015-16. Students have continued to outpace state and regional performance in state assessments at Round Rock ISD secondary schools. She holds a reputation as a champion meeting the needs of every student.
“We need strong, experienced leaders in our District to ensure we continue on the path set by our community,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Steve Flores said. “Mandy Estes brings an array of experiences to this position in all levels of public schools. She has the support of a talented and passionate team, who put us in a position to create the Destination District for Public Schools.”
During Estes’ time in leadership at Round Rock ISD, the District adopted a Strategic Plan that includes several new initiatives to make instruction more flexible and personalized for students.
Her team has been working to design CTE and health professions high schools for a possible bond election in May 2017. Her team also led the opening of the District’s first Early College High School, which opened at Austin Community College (ACC) Round Rock in August 2016.
Moving forward, Estes will work with a team charged with providing families more choices through specialized academies and the enhancement of neighborhood schools. She will also continue to collaborate with the Schools and Innovation team to develop innovative solutions for operating world class schools.
