McNeil High School Aquatic Science Teacher Kari Teague was named 2017 Round Rock ISD Secondary Teacher of the Year at the district’s annual banquet Monday evening, sponsored by the Round Rock ISD Partners in Education Foundation.
Teague has been an educator for 28 years, 15 of which have been at McNeil.
“Teacher of the year is more a product of the students I’ve had over the years and for them, I gladly accept the award,” Teague said. “It’s a very humbling experience and I’m proud to represent McNeil High School.”
Teague was selected out of 19 secondary teachers to represent Round Rock ISD in the regional Teacher of the Year competition. This is the second year a teacher from McNeil has been named Round Rock ISD Secondary Teacher of the Year.
As Teague prepares students for high-level science classes in college, she also builds a foundation of confidence in her classes, which makes her deserving of the Secondary Teacher of the Year title, McNeil Principal Courtney Acosta said.
“Kari Teague is a fighter and that serves her so well as a teacher,” Acosta said. “She grabs kids that either think they can’t make it and she fights for them and gets them to be able to fight for themselves to be successful. She creates a great foundation for students.”
