Congratulations, Grad, you did it! Graduation is both the end of a chapter and a new beginning. If you’re unsure of what comes next, your summer melt counselor can help!

Throughout the summer, Round Rock ISD high schools will provide the services of a dedicated “summer melt” counselor, who will assist recent graduates in navigating their path toward higher education, the workforce, or a combination of both.

The counselor assigned or stationed at your campus during the summer is readily available to offer guidance and support for various applications, including those for colleges, technical schools, apprenticeships, or employment opportunities.

Graduates are encouraged to email their summer melt counselor for an appointment:

About “Summer Melt”:
Summer melt is a term college admissions officers use to explain students who apply to college and get accepted but never actually show up in the fall. After students receive acceptance letters and decide to attend a particular college, they must complete several tasks to start college successfully. Summer melt counselors can help students meet the necessary tasks, assisting them in their next steps toward higher education and independence.

These tasks may include:

  • Determining the cost of attendance
  • Making sense of financial aid award letters
  • Understanding tuition bills and required deposits
  • Identifying and budgeting for expenses (i.e. health insurance, textbooks, meals)
  • Registering for and attending orientation
  • Receiving required immunizations
  • Taking placement tests
  • Completing housing forms
  • Registering for classes
  • Arranging transportation
  • Accessing and navigating online portals
