Nearly 800 Round Rock ISD educators are now the proud recipients of new laptops, courtesy of the voters who supported the district’s bond in November.

Purchased with 2024 Bond funds, the laptops replace older models that teachers have been using and taking care of for years.

At a recent distribution at Hopewell Middle School, 107 teachers turned in old chargers and laptops—some as old as 2017.

“Our teachers have really used these laptops fully, and they’ve done such a great job really taking care of the tech as long as they could,” said Chief Technology Officer Donnie Bruton.

Technology Infrastructure and Instructional Technology teams are partnering with campus staff to set up distribution areas in libraries and lecture halls, with the goal of distributing more than 1900 devices to staff before the end of May.

“Not all teachers will receive a new laptop this spring. There are several distributions planned for the fall and then continuing into next school year,” Bruton said.

Teachers whose laptops are three years old or less will receive their laptops last. The reason for the staggered distributions is to ensure that not all devices run out of their warranty at the same time.

Also planned for the fall is the start of  distributing nearly 45,000 student devices.

Superintendent Hafedh Azaiez was on hand at Hopewell to help deactivate old laptops and hand out new ones to the excited teachers.

“Our teachers deserve this and so much more,” Azaiez said. “You can see how well they’ve kept these old laptops going, and we are beyond thankful to them. We are also incredibly grateful to our voters. This is just one way our community showed their support for all that our teachers and campus staff do every day for our students.”
