With final paperwork approved by trustees at their regular meeting March 27, Round Rock ISD now owns the facility that will become a districtwide CTE and innovation center.

“I can’t tell you how excited we are about this huge step forward for our community and our students,” said Superintendent Hafedh Azaiez. “This facility will really take our CTE programs to the next level in Round Rock ISD.”

Located at 9900 Spectrum Drive, the former offices of Legal Zoom encompass more than 200,000 square feet, with approximately 49 acres of tree-covered land surrounding the building.

With the support of taxpayers who voted in favor of the 2024 Bond, the facility was purchased for $37.75 million,  a savings of about $9 million compared to the market value of the property.  It is also $15 million below the amount approved in the bond for purchase and renovation costs.

That savings will be used to support other work on the facility to make it ready for CTE and innovation programs. As part of the 2024 Bond, the district will

  • Create spaces to expand CTE offerings: auto body, cosmetology, early childhood and electrical trades.
  • Provide practice spaces for robotics teams currently using undersized campus locations.
  • Create a Welcome Center for staff, families and the community.
  • Allow the expansion and move of two districtwide programs:
    • The 18+ Program, which supports students receiving special education services.
    • Families in Transition, which supports students experiencing homelessness and who are in the foster care system.

With the remaining space, district administration offices will move from their current home at Round Rock High School, releasing the 700 Building back to the campus. The move will also give the campus the space currently occupied by the Lillie Delgado Administration Building, allowing for the voter-approved expansion of RRHS—which includes additional parking.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for students from throughout the district,” Azaiez said. “We are thankful and humbled by the support we received from the taxpayers who heard our dream for our students and approved the 2024 Bond. Thank you, again, for placing your trust in Round Rock ISD.”

The next phase for the building will be for the district to contract with an architect and design the spaces to be most functional—and welcoming—to students, staff and the community.
