Dr. Deborah Wills Covault is the new principal of Union Hill Elementary School.

Dr. Covault brings more than 18 years of experience in education and educational leadership. Most recently, she has served the students, families and staff of Lampasas ISD, where she helped develop the curriculum, managed projects, and provided conflict resolution for her campus.

As the most recent Assistant Principal at Lampasas Middle School, Dr. Covault collaborated with over 90 teachers and staff to ensure effective curriculum implementation and foster a positive learning environment for her previous students.

“I am honored to join Union Hill Elementary School and look forward to working alongside our dedicated staff, students, and families. Together, we will cultivate an innovative, collaborative, and inspiring learning environment where every child thrives.”

Dr. Covault started her educational career as an athletic coordinator and instructional specialist at Hays ISD. She managed and led school grant programs, developed cross-curricular lessons for teachers, and served her middle school community by helping with supplemental roles and committees, including being the PBIS primary trainer and mentor teacher.

After serving the Hays ISD community for almost a decade, Dr. Covault became the District and Campus Administrator while also taking on the position of Westminster Christian Academy’s athletic director. After three years, Covault became the Director of Women’s Athletics at Elgin High School, developing and collaborating with others to provide essential resources, support, and leadership to her team and students.

Union Hill Area Superintendent Dr. Patricia Ephlin said she’s excited to have Dr. Covault join the Stony Point Vertical Learning Community. “Dr. Covault brings experience in decreasing behavior incidents and increasing student achievement by creating effective systems. I am confident she will be an incredible asset to the Union Hill Community.”

Dr. Covault holds a Bachelor’s degree in Multidisciplinary Secondary Education from Concordia University, a Master’s degree in Education from Louisiana State University, and a Doctorate in Education from Abilene Christian University.

Her first day with Union Hill Elementary School will be May 1, 2025.
