The Westwood High School Tennis team recently won its third straight University Interscholastic League (UIL) 6A State Championship.
The team clinched the title in Waco with a 10-3 win over Katy Seven Lakes. It’s the school’s fifth state championship in seven years.
Head Tennis Coach and Assistant Athletic Coordinator, Travis Dalrymple, said the team really stepped up to make the 3-peat happen.
“We lost seven of our 14 starters last year to graduation,” he said. “I’m very proud of these kids. They earned it every single day on the courts.”
Westwood Tennis is currently ranked #1 in the nation by Universal Tennis, the global tennis player rating system.
“We are so proud of Coach Dalrymple, Coach Veve, and the amazing Westwood High School Tennis Team,” said Dr. Zac Oldham, Westwood Learning Community Area Superintendent. “Three state consecutive championships is an amazing accomplishment and speaks to the character, dedication, and determination of the student-athletes of the Westwood Tennis Program. It’s awesome to see the support the Westwood High School staff, families, and community provide each year at the State Tournament and beyond!”
Congratulations to all!
