Two Round Rock ISD students have been named honorable mentions in the final round of the 2024 I Am Texas Writing and Art Contest hosted by The Bryan Museum in Galveston.

Purple Sage Elementary fifth grader Kaniga Karthikeyan received an Honorable Mention in Elementary School Letter Writing with her piece “Dear Ann Richards,” a personalized letter to the former Governor of Texas.

Chisholm Trail Middle Schooler Rachel Park also received an Honorable Mention. The eighth grader submitted an art piece entitled “A Great Peace in Big Texas.”

Winners were announced on Tuesday, September 10.

This annual contest invites students to share their “Texas story” through creative writing and Texas-themed artwork. Each year, the “I Am Texas” theme encourages student contestants to use historical artifacts found in The Bryan Museum as inspiration to express their creativity. Student winners receive prize money, and their work is then published in the I Am Texas Traveling Exhibition book and displayed at The Bryan Museum.

In addition, six Round Rock ISD students were selected as finalists.

Our student art finalists’ work will be displayed at The Bryan Museum’s Student Art Expo from September 25 – November 24. Similarly, Kaniga will be published in the I Am Texas Historian’s Journal which will later become part of the museum’s permanent library collection.

These finalists are also invited to the I Am Texas reception, which will be held at The Bryan Museum on Sunday, November 24.
