Five Round Rock ISD high schools—Cedar Ridge, McNeil, Round Rock, Stony Point, and Westwood—are among only 270 campuses recognized nationwide and 29 in Texas for distinguished STEM programs.

McNeil IB® World High School stands out as the only school in Texas to earn this distinction for seven consecutive years.

PLTW’s STEM curriculum includes pathways in computer science, engineering, and biomedical science.

“Our partnerships between our campus teachers and industry make our programs at the high school level so successful and increase our enrollment,” said Muriel Roberson, Round Rock ISD career and technical education specialist. “We have the best teachers in the state!”

Schools earn the distinction by implementing strategies and having procedures in place that support reasonably proportional representation with regard to race, ethnicity, poverty, and gender and can support such claims with relevant data. Additionally, they must have students enrolled in at least three PLTW high school courses from any pathway, with either 25 percent or more of the student body participating in PLTW courses or, of those who participated, 33 percent or more taking two or more PLTW courses during their high school tenure.
