It’s graduation season! To celebrate, we’re showcasing seniors from throughout Round Rock ISD.
Cedar Ridge grad and actor Alexis Winston is among them.
Her favorite moments over the past four years include her time with “Theatre at the Ridge.”
“I have become so close-knit with all of my castmates, crewmates, and directors. We may have some ups and downs, but we put on the most amazing, professional shows our community has ever seen. We are a family,” she said.
“Some of my favorite roles I’ve played are ‘Bottom’ the Donkey from ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ and Mrs. Brill from ‘Mary Poppins.’ Contrary to popular belief, my favorite role was being an ensemble member/reporter in ‘Chicago’,” she said.
Covid-19 may have affected the beginning of her high school career, but it didn’t slow her down.
“Though my freshman year was spent at home, I believe that I have since made my mark and a lasting, positive impact on my school,” said Alexis.
This year, she received a Heller Award for her role in “Mary Poppins.”
“My Heller nomination was such an honor to me. It was the first time I had been nominated for an award show, and I am so blessed to have been acknowledged,” said Alexis.
“Theatre at The Ridge” also brought home Best Choreography and Best Ensemble.
Alexis said she recommends Cedar Ridge’s theatre program to other students. She said it taught her important life skills, such as public speaking, collaboration, and time management.
“It’s exhilarating to practice and watch the pieces of the puzzle come together, and it’s even more rewarding to have such an amazing final product, all thanks to your teamwork.”
She credited that success in part to Daniel Brillart, her TAG ELA teacher in fifth grade at Gattis Elementary.
“He is a man who believes that all children have potential. I was quite a spirited kid, and he helped me put that energy into my love for reading and writing. He taught me to go above and beyond in school, and life in general.”
Alexis will be attending Texas A&M University in the fall. Good luck, Alexis!
