Dr. Bonita Teasley is Round Rock ISD’s new executive director of Special Education, where she will provide leadership and oversight for the District’s special education services.
Round Rock ISD Special Education offers free appropriate public education to all children aged 3 to 22 who may have orthopedic impairment, health impairment, traumatic brain injury, intellectual disability, emotional disturbance, learning disability, speech impairment, autism or multiple disabilities.
Teasley has a robust special education leadership, policy, and curriculum development background.
Beyond her role in educational programming and compliance standards, she dedicates her expertise to crafting graduate-level course curricula for students pursuing a Master’s degree in special education.
Previously, she was director of special education at Elgin ISD, where she excelled in program development, compliance, and professional development initiatives, leading to improved outcomes for students with disabilities.
“Dr. Teasley is an outstanding education leader with a fervor for building relationships, collaborating, and establishing supportive systems aimed at the success of every student,” said Mr. Rodrigo Portillo, Round Rock ISD assistant superintendent of academics. “She will be instrumental in ensuring our students obtain the essential assistance required to achieve a standard of educational excellence.
Teasley holds a Ph.D. in educational policy and planning in executive public-school leadership from The University of Texas at Austin, a Master’s of Education in educational administration from Prairie View A&M University, and graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor’s of Science in applied learning development from UT Austin.
Her contributions to academic publications include works featured in the Encyclopedia of Social Work, Oxford University Press, the University of Texas Digital Repository, and the Journal of Latinos and Education, 10(3).
Her first day with Round Rock ISD will be Monday, March 18.
