Dr. Laura Carlin-Gonzalez has been named Round Rock ISD’s executive director of teaching and learning, where she will provide leadership and oversight for the District’s teaching and learning programs, including curriculum, advanced academics, professional development, and career and technical education.
Carlin-Gonzalez is an experienced educational leader with more than 16 years dedicated to improving student achievement. Notably, in her previous role as assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction at Del Valle ISD, she collaborated with campus and district leaders to raise the district’s TEA accountability rating by two letter grades.
Before her time with Del Valle ISD, Carlin-Gonzalez was director of college and career readiness at Pflugerville ISD, and has been a high school principal, assistant principal, instructional specialist and math teacher.
“Dr. Carlin-Gonzalez has a proven track record of building strong academic support systems and school leadership capacity,” said Dr. Rodrigo Portillo, Round Rock ISD assistant superintendent of academics. “Her contributions will play a vital role in ensuring our students and staff receive the necessary support for sustained educational excellence.”
Carlin-Gonzalez’s credentials include a Doctorate of Education in educational leadership and policy from the University of Texas at Austin’s Cooperative Superintendency Program. She also holds a Master’s of Education in educational leadership and a Bachelor’s of Science in mathematics with a minor in psychology from Texas State University-San Marcos.
Carlin-Gonzalez holds certifications as a Texas superintendent, principal, and secondary mathematics teacher.
Her first day with Round Rock ISD will be Tuesday, Jan. 16.
