Round Rock ISD voters on Tuesday approved Proposition A, adding $19 million to the District’s operating budget and making possible greater raises for educators.
According to unofficial results, the measure passed by 72.3% in Williamson County and 76.7% in Travis County. This will provide the district with funds for an additional 3% salary increase (based on the midpoint) on top of the raises trustees approved earlier this year.
“We are so thankful to the voters in Round Rock ISD for their support,” said Superintendent Hafedh Azaiez. “Our amazing teachers and staff work hard every day to provide our students with an exceptional education. This is just one of the ways we can show our appreciation for all that they do.”
The salary increases mean that all teachers will see a general pay increase of about $1,750, which is an increase of 3% of the midpoint of the teacher salary schedule.
Additionally, the District minimum wage for hiring hourly staff will increase to $15.25, while all eligible hourly employees will receive an additional 3% general pay increase, which is based on the midpoint rate of the pay grade for their position.
“Thank you to the voters in Round Rock ISD for supporting our teachers and staff. Your approval of Prop A helps Round Rock ISD continue to attract top talent to our schools,” said Round Rock ISD Board of Trustees President Amber Landrum.
The overall salary increases—which create total general pay increases of 6% for teachers and librarians and 5% for all other staff—are effective as of July 1. Employees will receive their new pay rate in their January paycheck, along with a retroactive payment to catch them up for days they have worked since the beginning of their duty period in the 2023-24 school year.
Approval of Prop A allows Round Rock ISD to access the maximum amount of tax revenue from what are known as “golden pennies,” funds that are not subject to recapture and that will remain with the District. The District sent $115 million to the state for its annual recapture payment this school year.
This approval also reduces the District’s total tax rate to $0.9190 per $100 taxable value. This is a decrease of 14.36 cents from the District’s $1.0626 tax rate for 2022–23.
