The Texas Education Agency has awarded Round Rock ISD a grant to add a health sciences P-TECH (Pathways in Technology Early College High School) Program.
A P-TECH program combines the best elements of high school, college, and work-based learning, empowering students to pursue advanced education and be financially successful in a global economy.
P-TECH is a public-private partnership involving Austin Community College and an industry partner that will prepare Round Rock ISD students for high-skill health science jobs.
Students in grades nine through 12 will experience a seamless high school and college coursework and workplace learning sequence where they will earn their high school diploma, industry based certification, a Level 1 or Level 2 certification and/or transcript college credit toward an Associate degree culminating in an A.A.S. degree at no cost.
“P-TECH aims to provide high school students with access to free post secondary coursework and career readiness confidence,” said Gloria Evans, Round Rock ISD assistant director of P-TECH. “Free college and skills training in high-growth industries is a life-changing opportunity for Round Rock ISD students.”
Round Rock ISD’s health science P-TECH program will open enrollment applications for rising District ninth-graders in the late Fall 2023 or early Spring 2024. Eighth-grade students from all 11 District middle schools who meet all requirements for promotion from eighth to ninth grade are eligible to apply. P-TECH Early College High School will be located at Cedar Ridge High School.
