An Institutional Review Board (IRB) is a committee of a specific composition that reviews research plans involving human subjects to determine potential physical and/or psychological risks. The IRB reviews and approves ALL research involving human subjects before experimentation begins (including surveys, professional tests, questionnaires, and studies in which the researcher is the subject of his/her own research).

As part of the second course in the College Board AP Capstone program, high school students taking the AP Research course are required to conduct original research and complete a research paper. If students plan on publishing their research and that research involves human subjects, they most likely will need IRB approval.

We are soliciting membership for the Round Rock ISD IRB’s Fall 2023 virtual review process. The IRB meeting date has been set for November 13, with virtual review sessions both during the day and evening. We anticipate approximately 110 proposals to be submitted for review this year. Training will be provided prior to the IRB.

If you are interested in serving as a member of the Round Rock ISD IRB, please complete and submit this form by October 1, 2023. You will be notified by October 6 regarding your service. Teachers may earn professional development credit hours for their service.
