Using a research-based five-level hierarchy, along with leading and lagging indicators, educators learn to assess, monitor, and confirm the effectiveness of their schools.

Allison Cobb appointed to lead DAEP

Cobb spent 13 years in the classroom teaching kindergarten, Head Start, PPCD and special education. During her career in public education she has held roles as a counselor, assistant principal, and principal. Cobb is an experienced campus leader and committee chairperson. She has realized student achievement by leading ARD, discipline, attendance and LPAC and using data to construct improvement plans.

Ebony Parks has been named principal of Hernandez Middle School

Parks has served as a middle school principal in a neighboring school district for two years and as associate principal for four years. In 2020, she was named Region XIII Assistant Principal of the Year. Parks has served as an English Language Learning Coach and middle school Pre-AP ELA teacher, where she planned curriculum and engaged data to improve student outcomes. Before settling in Central Texas, she taught middle and high school English in Illinois, Nebraska, and Puerto Rico for six years.

Deidra Floyd has been named principal of Fern Bluff Elementary

Floyd began her career with Round Rock ISD as a Fern Bluff Elementary School second-grade teacher. After 14 years in the classroom and two years as a talented and gifted specialist, Floyd joined the Canyon Creek Elementary School leadership team as an assistant principal.

Round Rock ISD selects Donnie Bruton, Jr. as chief technology officer

Bruton has over 23 years of experience supporting technology endpoint devices and infrastructure systems in state, higher education, and K-12 public school environments. He has been Round Rock ISD’s director of technology infrastructure since 2021. And previously, Bruton served in technology leader roles for Georgetown and Pflugerville Independent School Districts.

Laura Ihonvbere is the new principal of Callison Elementary School. Ihonvbere has served in a campus leadership role with Round Rock ISD at C.D. Fulkes Middle School, Cactus Ranch Elementary School, Wells Branch Elementary Arts Integration Academy, and Chandler Oaks Elementary School since 2010.

New School Start Times Begin On Aug. 15

Starting Aug. 15, all Round Rock ISD elementary, middle and high schools will start school five minutes earlier than the previous year. The adjustments follow the Board of Trustees approval of a calendar amendment to add five instructional minutes to each school day.

Round Rock ISD is seeking volunteers for its Back to School Celebration scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 5 from 10 a.m to 2 p.m. at Stony Point High School, 1801 Tiger Trail, Round Rock, TX 78664. The event is held in partnership with the Round Rock ISD Partners in Education (PIE) Foundation and Texas Children’s Hospital.
