Sanmita Hosur, a seventh grade student from Canyon Vista Middle School, made her school proud by taking the silver medal in her category at the 2023 National Middle School (K-8) Chess Championship tournament.
Sanmita competed in the Championship category of USCF ratings 1300-1399 during the competition which took place at Kalahari Resorts in Round Rock.
The tournament was highly competitive, with some of the best young chess players from across the country vying for the top spots. Sanmita’s performance was outstanding, as she scored the same points as the first-place winner. However, since all three winners had the same number of points, the tournament’s tiebreaker rules came into play. The tiebreaker parameters included cumulative performance over all the games, and based on that, Sanmita was placed in second position with the silver medal award.
