The Texas Orchestra Directors Association (TODA) has recognized Canyon Vista Middle School Orchestra Director Ragan Whatley as their 2023 Director of Distinction.
Each year TODA members nominate a Texas orchestra director with 10 or more years of teaching experience who exemplifies excellence in teaching and has shown a commitment to lifetime service and leadership in Texas. Whatley was named the 2023 Director of Distinction for his hard work, demonstrating initiative, and serving as a mentor for young teachers. He has 14 years of experience as an orchestra director.
“I am humbled and honored to have been nominated by my peers for this prestigious award,” said Whatley. “There are so many incredible orchestra teachers in this state, and to be recognized by those teachers as a Director of Distinction is a really special feeling. I plan to continue to work hard to live up to this honor!”
The Director of Distinction award will be presented at the 2023 TODA 62nd Annual Summer Convention on Friday, July 21, in San Antonio, TX.
