The Round Rock ISD Board of Trustees approved a compensation plan for the 2022-2023 school year that boosts salaries for positions including teachers and librarians by at least 4 percent.
All staff will receive at least a 2 percent increase, with some employees receiving a market pay adjustment on top of their general pay increase.
The new compensation plan includes a general pay increase for teachers and librarians of 4 percent, with market pay adjustments for those with the least years of experience. A compensation study by the Texas Association of School Boards found that while teachers in Round Rock ISD with 10 to 20 years of experience were at or above the local market median, beginning teachers and those with up to five years of experience were below market. This action aligns those salaries with the market median and boosts the starting teacher salary to $52,600 a year. All teachers and librarians will see an increase of at least $2,250 in their annual salary.
“All of our staff members have worked incredibly hard and faced crushing challenges over the past two years. But, through it all, our students have remained the focus, and we want to do all we can to pay our staff, especially our teachers, competitively so they remain a part of the Round Rock ISD team,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Hafedh Azaiez said. “However, we know we have a long way to go to ensure educators are compensated fairly. We will continue working with Texas legislators to advocate for more funding for public education and create avenues to boost teacher salaries.”
Other increases include a 3 percent general pay increase for administrative support and operations support and a 2 percent general pay increase for instructional support and other positions in technology, business, and police services. Instructional support positions, which primarily include educational assistants, received an immediate pay increase effective April 1, 2022, with raises ranging from 10-18 percent. The general 2 percent increase for 2022-2023 is on top of that boost in pay.
The salary increases will cost the District $15.2 million.
“Recruiting and retaining the best educators and support staff in Texas is of utmost importance to this Board,” Board of Trustees President Amber Feller said. “Round Rock ISD has long been a premier district for educators as a great place to live and work, and we must fight to continue that legacy. We will be as creative as we need to be to offer competitive compensation and will keep this critically important issue front and center for the Texas Legislature as they discuss funding for public schools.
