During the Fall 2021 semester, 449 Round Rock ISD students earned their certification in Microsoft Word and Powerpoint software systems. Business Information Management (BIM) classes are offered at nine middle and five high schools. BIM is part of the Round Rock ISD career and technical education program. Career and technical education programs provide students as early as middle school the opportunity to earn college credits.

In partnership with Austin Community College (ACC), Round Rock ISD students can earn what is called articulated credit or “credit in escrow.” Certifications available include Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. When students pass the BIM course and complete the requirements of the certifications, they earn college credit.

Certifications demonstrate to prospective employers that students know how to operate the desired software program, help them stand out in interviews, gain confidence in a subject area and prepare them for the level of rigor required for industry certification exams they may face in the future.

Certifications and college credit for Microsoft Excel are available for students to earn in the Spring 2022 semester.

Round Rock ISD provides students access to over 60 industry certifications in 16 federally defined career clusters.
