The Round Rock ISD Board of Trustees voted Thursday to approve a retention bonus for full and part-time Round Rock ISD employees.

Full-time employees will receive $500 and part-time employees will receive $250 in their December paychecks.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Hafedh Azaiez brought a resolution to the Trustees to provide a $1,000 bonus to full-time staff and a $500 bonus to part-time staff, divided into two payments to be paid in December and June. The initiative was launched as an effort to retain, recognize and support staff during this school year with the continued challenges brought by the pandemic. Trustees unanimously approved the December payment and discussed their intent to consider early next year whether to provide a second payment in June.

“Our staff has consistently gone above and beyond to ensure that effective teaching and learning continue to take place in our schools, regardless of the challenges of the past two years,” Dr. Azaiez said. “For that, and much more, we brought this resolution to the Board to recognize the efforts of our educators and those that support them, and to show our appreciation for all that they do.”

Providing payments in December and June will cost the District $6.6 million. Chief Financial Officer Dennis Covington told the Board the retention bonuses will be covered by resources made available through the federal Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) Fund.
