Ryan Smith has been named the District’s Chief of Teaching and Learning.
Smith has served as the Executive Director of Teaching and Learning since 2017. During that time he led large scale and critical organizational projects, supported learning and assessment management systems and the implementation of internal communication systems. He also helped lead the District through the major initiatives during the COVID-19 pandemic related to virtual and on-campus teaching and learning. He has also served as the District’s Director of Professional Development and has previously held the position of assistant principal at Walsh and Deerpark middle schools. Prior to administrative roles, he served as a special education teacher at Deerpark. He has 19 years of experience in education.
“I’m truly humbled and excited for this opportunity to serve our community as Chief of Teaching and Learning,” Smith said. “Over the last 18 years in Round Rock ISD, I’ve served in multiple roles and look forward to using that experience as we cultivate systems to support the learning of our students so that they may succeed at all levels.”
Smith has a Master’s in Education Administration from the University of Texas at Austin and is a graduate of their Principalship Program provided by the Department of Educational Administration. He also earned a Bachelor’s Degree in English from California State University in San Bernardino.
